"What more do you need whenI'm here?"

SRI BALA CHARANAM.
MAY 23RD, 2010.

“WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED WHEN I’M HERE FOR YOU?”

On May 21st, 2010, the day began quite normally. I was checking my e-mail in the morning over a cup of tea. There was a certain air of satisfaction since I had just finished my interpretation of Sri Bala Andhadhi and published this article on my blog site. I wasn’t sure who was going to read this work, however, I was just relieved that I had completed the task set me by Bala. I spent a few moments looking at some of the paintings I’d done of Bala earlier, in particular, my depiction of “Arpudha Bala” completed in May, 2009 at the request of Sri Baba.G.

I looked into Bala’s eyes for a few moments and then moved on to complete my
e mail correspondences. Suddenly, without warning, I could hear Sri Bala’s voice very clearly.
When I say I could “hear” her, I mean that certain thoughts were coming on very strongly in my mind.

“ Draw an image of me within two days”, this voice said.

I was startled and for a few moments carried on with the task at hand, without paying undue importance to this sudden request.

The voice started speaking again “ I want you to draw an image of me to tell everyone that when I’m here for them, they should not worry. Through this drawing, viewers should realize that I’m here to grant ALL their wishes. What more can they desire, when I, as a small child, am patiently waiting to give more than what anyone can ask for”?

Again, I thought this voice was my own imagination and did not pay much heed. However, for the next 15 minutes or so, I found I could not perform any work successfully. My mind seemed to reverberate with this command from Bala(?) to depict her in a painting.

Finally, I asked her “ Bala, in what manner should I depict you? I have portrayed you several times before in various poses. I can’t seem to think how you wish to reveal yourself to your devotees this time".

There was an immediate response “ I want you to draw me standing, with both hands in front of me, palms facing outward, as though I’m coming to both grant everyone’s wishes as well as to say what more do you need when I’m here for you”.

Bala went on to say “ you must finish this painting within two days. On May 22nd, it should be completed”.

“But how?” I started to protest. “I’m not sure I can do something like this so quickly”. Bala’s response cut like lightning “ Of course you will because you are not the person doing this work. I’m using you to give something to my devotees”.

Of course, this is true. I’ve never fancied myself to be an artist. All the paintings I’ve done over the past few years ( which have been given away to Sri Bala Peetam) have been the result of Divine command and clear directives from an astral plane.

However, I thought to myself “ I have already done a painting of Bala coming towards her devotees, arms outstretched. This is the Arpudha Bala painting I finished last year. Why does she want another one in the same style?”

Bala seemed to be still hovering nearby. She said “ This image will be different, you’ll see. Now get off the computer, shut down the useless conversation you are having with this person on G-CHAT , there’s work to be done”.

So, that’s exactly what I did.

Within half an hour, I was staring at a blank sheet of white paper laid out on my dining table. I picked up a pencil, thought of Bala and over the next couple of hours, finished the drawing! My hands were guided by none other than this child- Goddess. Of this there is no doubt in my mind.

I looked at the completed pencil sketch and thought I could finish the painting using charcoal pencils. After all, there were a few left over after my portrait of Sai Baba had been completed last year.

The moment this thought occurred, Bala stepped in “ Ha, I’m not letting you go so easily. I want to be seen in a bright pink skirt with a green blouse.” She proceeded to tell me the colors I had to use for her painting. I realized I had to make another trip to the art store.

However, there was one more day left to finish the painting. I worked steadily on May 22nd, making Bala look even more (?) pretty in her billowing pink skirt and enjoyed creating glittering ornaments for her to wear.

By 6 p.m. on May 22nd, I’d finished the work.

I took a step back and heaved a sigh of relief. I didn’t for a single moment consider this as a work of art. I looked at the painting and it seemed Bala was stepping out of it, smiling impishly. Although I realized this, the next moment I looked again, and saw many flaws in the painting.

However, Bala’s instructions were very precise. I was not to meddle and try to “fix” this painting in any way. This was “her” work and this is the way she wants to appear to all her devotees.

On May 23rd, BALA allowed me to put finishing touches only to her eyes, only because I pleaded with her . Even so, I’m not sure if these few changes in any way enhanced an already perfect work. Also, she has allowed me to write up about this incident.

No doubt, this picture will be published on the day Sri Bala stipulates.
It is my sincere wish, indeed prayer, that those who view this divine image can actually “see” the mischievous spirit of this wonderful child- Goddess shining through.

I hope all your wishes are fulfilled and Bala comes to reside in your heart permanently.

Please print this image and give it away to all your friends and relatives. It will surely provide them solace, protection and make all their wishes come true!

Thousands of questions for the 100 Answersgiven by Sri Bala!

SRI BALA CHARANAM.
APRIL 13TH, 2010
THOUSANDS OF QUESTIONS FOR THE 100 ANSWERS GIVEN BY SRI BALA IN SRI BABA.G’S “SRI BALA ANDHADHI”.

INTRODUCTION:
It is only at Sri Bala’s explicit request that I maintain this blog site. Whatever I write has Bala’s blessings and indeed, this is merely a platform for Her to reach out to whoever connects with this site.

Today, I was made to understand very clearly that Bala wanted me to write about something totally different compared to my previous blog posts. During a recent telephone conversation with Sri Baba.G he asked me to start looking into the 100 verses of his poem “Bala Andhadhi”. He said, “if you start asking, or searching for the appropriate questions that might have produced the answers or “Arul Vakku”, contained in the 100 verses of my poem, I think you will find the key to unlock your problems. There are only 100 correct questions for those answers. However, these are all mixed up in your head right now. By asking the correct questions, many secrets can be unlocked and you will find the truth”.

“Why should he talk about this today?” I asked myself. However, on the eve of Tamil New Year, I got a very clear instruction from Bala that this should indeed be the content of my writings in this article.

In fact, she gave me a precise time period, between 11 a.m and 1 p.m. today, to sit and do this work. Without questioning her, I have embarked on this task. I sincerely hope all of you find answers and solutions to many of your questions from none other than Sri Bala herself.

We are usually conditioned to find the correct answers for questions. However, please remember that in her little child’s world, Bala is asking and imploring all of us to come up with the right question, because she has already given us the answers! It is up to us to analyse and question “Why?” we can’t seem to find that perfect solution , when this child- goddess has already provided the answers for all our problems!

“Bala Andhadhi”, containing 100 verses was composed by Sri Baba.G in the late 1990’s during the period he had just begun to write a number of Bala’s songs, at her request. Although many of his earlier works are set in the style of his eminent father, Peedathipadhi, Sri Ezhilmani, the Andhadhi stands apart from the rest with respect to both its content as well as the meter in which the verses are set.
First of all, most songs written by Baba.G (as dictated to him by Sri Bala), address a lot of problems faced by people in this world. There is hymn to remove diseases, a prayer for getting ahead in studies, another song that results in good progeny, etc. The Bala Andhadhi, on the other hand is, on the surface, a litany of praises on Sri Bala . However, each one of the 100 verses is highly symbolic and for those who are patient to study it deeply, a treasure trove of precious gems can be unearthed.

“Andhadi”, refers to a type of poem consisting of 100 verses, in which the ending word of each stanza forms the beginning word of the subsequent one. Also, the final word employed while concluding the poem, is the exact same word utilized to start this elegy.

I should also point out that I started this work on April 13th, 2010, with the blessings of Sri Baba.G . As indicated earlier, during just two hours ( 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on that day, I wrote several questions for exactly 38 verses. Subsequently, when I resumed this work the next day, the questions that arose in my mind seemed totally different. They appeared to be rhetorical questions, indicating a subtle shift in my perception regarding the meaning of these verses. Without pausing to ask why this was happening , I carried on with my efforts, putting down in writing exactly, and without alteration, the thoughts Sri Bala herself was planting in my mind.

In other words, Sri Bala herself was making both the questions and answers spring forth in my mind.

Although this might seem a bit confusing, I think once you start reading, you will begin to understand.

So, for the first 38 verses I’ve asked innumerable questions regarding each verse and summarized the answer for each one as dictated by Bala to me.
From verse 38 until verse 60, ( i.e. 22 verses), the questions themselves contain the answers. Yet, even for these rhetorical questions, Bala has made me provide further explanation. It appears that she really is reaching out to a lot of people and made me recap several times in order to point out clear and precise explanations through the answers.

From Verse 60 to verse 100 ( 40 verses), Bala told me to “sing” her praises and this is exactly what I’ve done. I found that all questions had vanished from my mind and what was left was just Bala’s grandeur.

In fact, the first two hours on April 13th marked an end to all the doubts and confusion that existed in my mind. From Verse 38 until 60, I have actually chastised myself for NOT having understood Bala’s glory more fully, foolish as I have been!
Verses 60 to 100 sing out Bala’s exalted nature.

This work started on April 13th, 2010 at Sri Bala’s command and through Baba.Gs blessings has been completed on May 6th, 2010 at exactly 4 p.m.

I shall wait for Sri Bala’s instructions regarding the exact day this work should be posted on my blog.

I have reproduced Sri Bala Andhadhi , transliterated from the original Tamil Text as composed by Sri Baba.G. The literal meaning of each verse is given directly below the Romanized script, followed by the questions and answers as provided to me by Bala! While I have tried my best to produce a close translation of Tamil into English, I do apologize, in advance, for any errors on my part.

This post has been published on May 18th, 2010 after receiving the blessings of Sri Baba.G at Bala Peetam, Nemili.

Baalaavin Andhaadhi danai azhagudan aakkithara
Moola kaaraNamai irukkum muzhu mudaR kadavule
Kola nirai Ganapathiye thozhuthEn unai kOdimuRai.

Meaning.
She’s the Creator of this universe, an embodiment of knowledge
To help me compose Bala’s Andhadhi beautifully,
Oh Lord, who is the root cause for everything, and the first and foremost among all deities,
Oh beautiful Lord, Ganapathi, I worship you countless times!

Om Ganeshaya Namah:
Sri Guruve Charanam.

VERSE 1.

TO COMMENCE GOOD ACTIONS

NARCHEYAL THUDANGA.

AnRu oRu naaL ayyaRavargal kanavinile vandavaL
Indru mudal Nemili en iruppidam ena chonnavaL
enRoozh pOl jolikkinRa vayadinile chinnavaL
onru dalenRaal ingu than enRu oYaaramai ninRavaL.

Meaning:
One day, ( long ago), she came in Iyer’s dream
From today, Nemili is my place of rest, she said.
Glowing like the bright sun, young in age,
If there’s one place where everyone comes to unite, it is here
She said, as she came to stand, proudly!

QUESTION:
When will I understand the purpose for Bala’s descent into this world or why she chose Nemili to be her resting place? Why did she assume the role of a small child to entice her devotees, and what indeed is the mystique surrounding her precocious nature?

Answer:
She entered Iyer’s dream in the form of a small child and chose Nemili to be her permanent abode. She lives here in the form of a bright, glowing spark of a child teaching us all to love each other and remain united despite many differences in caste, creed or cultural backgrounds. Bala’s message is universal. She teaches us to celebrate the God-like qualities of innocence and love innate in all children, and to share this love universally without harboring any evil intentions or deceit. People from all over the nation and world come together at Nemili, united in praise of Sri Bala.

VERSE 2.

REMOVAL OF WICKEDNESS.

THEEMAIGAL VILAGA.

Meaning:
Standing alone, a small child who won over everyone
Destroying evil by playing divine tricks
Occupying the hearts of everyone living in Nemili
attracting everyone to her today, and giving happiness to all.

QUESTION:
Why has Sri Bala , a mere child, chosen to appear in this world alone, unaccompanied by either her mother or father? Most deities in Hindu mythology are represented as accompanied by their consorts. Symbolically, the male principle represents the inherent, unmanifest power of creation while the female principle is the energizing power or Shakthi. Yet, in Bala’s case, she has chosen to appear alone. Also, What does she achieve by all her mischievous acts. Why does she create so many questions in our mind?

ANSWER:
She appears on her own to indicate her fearlessness in single- handedly destroying all enemies or negative tendencies. Also, she is the residing place of ALL the Gods. Within her is contained this entire universe. Acting in the manner of a small child, she creates a play of events in the lives of her devotees that completely destroys all negative forces and evil tendencies, transforming everyone into aspects or reflections of herself!

Many questions and doubts are made to rise in our minds, so this little child can get the opportunity to wipe them out and cleanse our thoughts!

Small in form, swiftly does she arrive to provide all good things
Lovely maiden who created this beautiful universe within half a second!

QUESTION:
What can we really obtain from her? Can we hope to fulfill all our material desires even if we are not terribly truthful or honest? Does she really listen to our prayers? She’s such a small child; can she really put an end to lawlessness, dishonesty and chaos in this world? What powers does she possess?

ANSWER:
Bala’s powers are immense. Remember, she created this entire universe within half a second. She is generous in taking care of her devotees’ requests and fulfills all their desires instantly, overlooking their many flaws. She hastens to stamp out injustice and stands steadfastly by the side of her faithful devotees.

ANSWER:
Yes, Sri Bala who has created this universe and pervades it completely, fights all our enemies, both internal and external. She wipes away all our sorrow, and spreads the message of love and harmony, transforming and winning over the hearts of even the most ruthless people.

kuRaindavaL kuraigaL anaithaiyum kuRaivinRi TheerThavaL.

Meaning:
Occupying fully and dwelling permanently inside hearts filled with love
She disappeared half way in the legend after slaying the sons of demon Bandaasuran.
Youngest in size and age among all Gods in the world
She makes all sorrows vanish without a trace!

QUESTION:
How do we go about “finding” Bala? What is the procedure for filling our hearts with Bala? How can we persuade her to stay within us permanently , without vanishing quickly?

ANSWER:
Sri Bala resides in all loving hearts. When we have successfully vanquished all our bad qualities, the heart’s empty space is then filled completely with love. In the midst of this loving heart, Bala sits in splendor. However, we have to work hard to “capture” her! If you want Bala to stay with you permanently, think of her, love her and experience her always as a little child. Remember, she may be the youngest among all Gods in terms of size and age. However, none can equal her strength and prowess in defeating all our enemies and fulfilling all our wants!

Provided countless, infinite happiness to everyone!

QUESTION:
Why does Bala attach a lot of importance to Music, song, dance, art and drama? Why does she insist on inviting musicians to her Peetam and make a huge fuss over them?

ANSWER:
Sri Bala “is” the very soul of Music and it is through this medium she has chosen to reveal herself to seekers. She invites to her house many musicians and delights in hearing them perform. However, nothing gives her as much happiness as hearing her own songs sung with complete belief and devotion.

VERSE 7.

Wearing love and grace like two beautiful garments
She appears in the dreams of her faithful devotees.

QUESTION:
Why are we assailed relentlessly by so many problems in life? Even if our past Karma is a factor in determining our current circumstances, can the sharp sword of destiny be deterred by prayers? By singing Bala’s songs will our problems vanish? Can we, each one of us, catch a glimpse of Bala, at least in our dreams? Does she really become a part of you and reside in your subconscious mind, located in your heart? Can you hear her? Experience her and talk to her?

ANSWER:
Yes, definitely Sri Bala will make you totally aware of her presence both within your heart as well as in orchestrating events in your life. The songs Sri Bala has given her devotees contain miraculous healing powers that can blunt the sharp sword of Destiny. Her songs address a lot of problems that we face in life starting with the difficulty of finding a suitable partner, not being able to have a child, health, wealth, education, moral and legal issues. If you are truly devoted to her and sing her songs with complete belief and total surrender, this little child removes all your problems with one, quick stroke.

VERSE 8.

KODIYA THEEYORAI THADUKKA.

thuthiPpavaL thooya nenjai KaayapaduTthum kayavaRai
midhiPpavaL minnal iRangi vandhadhu pOla piRandavaL.

Meaning:
She arrives to decree all good things should befall kind- hearted people living in the world,
She’s worshipped by many existing in this impermanent world,
and squashes immoral people who wound innocent hearts
With the abruptness of a bolt of lightning, she’s born!

QUESTION:
We witness several evil deeds and atrocious actions in this world. Will there ever be an end to injustice, dishonesty, cruelty and torture in this world. Can countries put an end to strife and warfare and learn to live with harmony? Can leaders behave more responsibly? When will politicians and government officials stop accepting bribes? When will those in a position of power stop accumulating more wealth? Will social justice ever be meted out?

ANSWER:
Bala’s presence in this world is to address problems of this nature. She rewards good people instantly and is equally quick to punish all wrong-doers. Born into this world with the suddenness of a streak of lightning, little Bala moves swiftly to avenge wicked and evil people who wound the hearts of innocent people. Her aim is to unite people of different races and cultures through the medium of tolerance and love.

VERSE 9.

Removal of diseases and sins.
PINIGAL, PIZHAIGAL THEERA.

PirandavaL piNi pOkkum deivangal anaiTthilum
chiRanthavaL pizhaigal pala seidaalum mannitthu
maRanthavaL Nemiliyai piRappidamai kondu peedathinai
thiRanthavaL poovulagai kaathida nemilikku vandavaL.

Meaning:
Born into the world, superior to all other deities
Renowned for removing diseases
She forgives and forgets countless sins that are committed
She considers Nemili as her birthplace and opened the Peedam (holy seat).
To dispense protection to the world, she has arrived in Nemili.

QUESTION:
Can praying to Bala remove diseases that afflict us? Can she provide a “miracle cure” and heal those who are terminally ill? Does Sri Bala accept us totally when we seek refuge and surrender at her feet, even though we may have committed many sins and possess innumerable defects?

ANSWER:
Our Vedas proclaim that our body is governed and blessed by various deities. For example, Lord Surya ( Sun) is responsible for the proper functioning of the eyes, Lord Chandra ( Moon) governs the mind, Lord Indra gives strength to our hands, while Lord Vishnu governs the ability to walk, and so on. Therefore praying to the appropriate deities is deemed to give relief for those suffering from various ailments. However, Sri Bala is the residing place of all Gods. Singing her “Noi Neekum Pathigam” (Hymn to remove all diseases) will surely provide relief for devoted seekers. What is important to note is the fact that these songs have been given to this world by Sri Bala herself and they are far more powerful than ancient hymns and prayers prescribed in the Vedas by Rishis and sages. Bala has chosen Nemili to be her permanent residing place and has come to this world to protect and help all those who come to her. She does not judge us by the mistakes we might have committed. True to her nature as a small child, she is quick to forgive us and clasp us to her heart!

VERSE 10.

To acquire everything we ask for.
KETTATHELLAAM KIDAIKKA.

VandavaL vaanjaiyOdu kettathellaam aLLi aLLi
thanthavaL veRanna vendum keL naan un
sondam enRavaL ennai vittaal unakedu
bandam ena cholli arulum porulum tharum arum poRul.

Meaning:
She comes to bestow whatever we ask for with love and compassion
Benevolent in heaping more and more boons,
Enquiring “what more do you need I’m your relation
If you desert me what bond are you left with?”
So saying she gives all material things and her grace, this rare, divine being!

QUESTION:
Is it true that Bala grants all our wishes? Can I really get “close” to her and bond with her like a close member of the family? Can I take the liberty of requesting her to fulfill all my desires?

ANSWER:
Bala is there to give you everything your heart desires. Why bother to ask her anything when She is totally aware of all your needs. You might feel that a pressing problem you have encountered needs a quick solution. So, you pray to Bala for that particular problem to get solved. However, by focusing simply on one issue, you are restricting the full impact of Sri Bala’s grace. She is ever present and all pervading. Bala knows all about you and what is best for you. She provides a good lift and rewards us at the appropriate time in our lives.

VERSE 11.

REMOVAL OF INNER DARKNESS ( IGNORANCE).

Meaning:
When devotees approach you, not wanting wealth
Only your grace, and come searching for you at your house
With gladness in their hearts, all bewilderment and inner darkness vanishes and,
They attain true happiness in this world.

QUESTION:
Most people are materialistic and seek to obtain worldly pleasures. However, can Bala help those who are also true spiritual seekers?

ANSWER:

The ladder of truth, and after witnessing a lift in their lives,
They frown upon evil deeds, erase all smallness and
Wear greatness like a new dress.

QUESTION:
Can Bala’s grace help those who have reformed through her healing powers, achieve greatness in life? Is it possible for people who were once cruel and wicked, to change completely and perform philanthropic acts and service to mankind?

ANSWER:
Bala’s songs bring about a complete and total modification in both thought and action. By either listening to them or chanting these songs, the mind begins to subconsciously grasp all the good values and the wisdom espoused and constant repetition leads to an alteration of behavior and action. A truthful and honest behavior replaces dishonesty and deceit. Jealousy, envy and greed vanish and selfishness is replaced by selfless service. Above all, hatred is replaced by a loving attitude towards everyone.

VERSE 14.

ENHANCEMENT OF SPIRITUALITY.
NAL AANMEEGAM VALARA.

PooNuvaR kavachamaai poongodi un kavachathai poovulagil
kaaNuvar KaaNa kidaikka PeRanaithum kaNdapin
ENuvaR edhinmai inri unnai etthuvar pinbu
naaNuvar natthigam pesiathai eNni naa koosuvar.

Meaning:
They (your devotees) shall wear your “kavacham” as a protective shield
And watch their fortunes and greatness increase,
Witnessing this, they praise you highly
And feel ashamed for having (previously) spoken
Like atheists.

QUESTION:
What is the “greatness” or “power” of your “Kavacham” ( Shield of Protection hymn)? Is it possible for even the most stubborn atheist to fall victim to your charms? Can miracles happen and evil forces be held at bay by reciting your Kavacham?

ANSWER:
Sri Bala’s Kavacham is indeed a very powerful hymn. Chanting this every day benefits the sincere devotee and keeps at bay all destructive and evil forces. Miraculous incidents are experienced by many who recite this prayer daily. Atheists are completely altered after witnessing her many playful acts and soon they are also brought within the protective circle of Bala’s grace.

VERSE 15.

TO INTERACT AND BEHAVE HARMONIOUSLY.
INIMAIYAAI PAZHAGA.

Koosuvar theeya cheyal puriya koodaa ozhukkam kandu
Esuvar iRumaappinri enneramum inmugamaai
Pesuvar aLavilaa undan leelaigalai kaaNa
Aasuvar kandapin Aatpaduvar Aanandamaai unnai ninaitthu.

Meaning:
They( your devotees) shall abhor to perform wicked deeds, and denounce
All bad habits, cease to be hypocrites and speak sweetly at all times
They long to witness your divine miracles
And having perceived them,
Thinking of you, they fall under your spell happily!

Question:
Why do I entertain so many conflicting thoughts about Bala?
Why do I sometimes doubt her presence within me? Even when I have witnessed many of her divine acts, why do I sometimes “forget” her and seek out other Gurus or deities? Why am I so confused in my mind at times that I’m driven to go on endless pilgrimages and holy places seeking remedies for life’s problems when all I need to do is to simply stand in front of Bala in her house?

QUESTION:
Why is it that I get an “inexplicable” feeling of complete, utter peace when I stand in front of Bala? When I stand in front of Sri Bala, why do I get the certain feeling that nothing in this world can really affect me? Why do I feel that material concerns are no longer significant? Why does happiness fill my heart completely when I visit Sri Bala at her Peetam?

ANSWER:
Sri Bala removes all our defects with a mere glance and fulfills all our requests in a twinkling of a second. All impediments and obstacles vanish instantly and like the celestial, wish-fulfilling tree, Kamadhenu, Sri Bala showers her devotees with blessings and makes all their wishes come true. However, she does teach us to be more motivated towards helping others and educates us to understand the non-permanence of worldly pleasures. Being with Bala constantly, brings out the “real” Self or God-Like nature, embedded deeply in everyone. In other words your true nature or real self is none other than Bala who is permanently mixed up with you, in your thoughts and actions.

QUESTION:
I’ve often wondered why it is possible to visit Bala at Nemili only on certain days and not whenever I feel like making a trip. Why is it that even though I consider myself to be an ardent devotee of Sri Bala, she does not “allow” me to visit her whenever I feel like doing so?

ANSWER:
Every single visit to Sri Bala Peetam is “only” at her express command!
You are merely deluding yourself if you think “you” have made plans to see her. Every visit, made by either her devotees or total strangers, is intended for their benefit. I’ve come to understand clearly, over the past 8 years, that after every single visit, problems that bothered me acutely, have been solved. In addition, Sri Bala protects her devotees and many times I’ve been forewarned of looming troubles. Many results that I felt were unfortunate, have, in the long run, produced favourable outcomes. Many dangers have been averted; and Bala has removed from my life many people who have harbored evil intentions. Such is Bala’s grace. Immeasurable is the power of her darshan!

Bala is the source, cause and effect of this whole creation. Within her resides this entire universe inclusive of the wisdom and talents of all its inhabitants. So, it would indeed be extremely unwise to underestimate this child- Goddess. It is impossible to fool Bala since she is aware of your deepest, subconscious thought. Oh beautiful lady, who has spoken out the truth, your face destroys enemies,
There’s no need for religious rituals, no need to fear, our
Bodies shall become the sacrificial pits and when we offer Bala’s
Songs as holy offerings, in the proper manner, each day,
Certainly, we shall attain salvation.

QUESTION.
Is it true that one glimpse of Sri Bala’s sweet face is sufficient to get rid of all our enemies, both internal and external?
Is it true that by singing Bala’s songs we obtain true salvation?
It is common for people to consult astrologers when they are undergoing tough situations in life. It is equally common practice for astrologers to prescribe certain “pariharams” or remedies that might alleviate unpleasant situations and overcome the negative effects of the planets, etc. Yet, at Bala Peetam, the only remedy for all life’s problems is to sing songs. Is it really true that singing a song can cure a disease, get someone a job, pass an exam or have a child?
This seems quite illogical in the world we live in today!

ANSWER:
The real answer to this question lies in your own attitude towards Bala. If you look at her with questioning eyes and doubt her “presence” in the songs, then this prescription will not work for you. When a doctor prescribes treatment for his patient, the latter should follow it assiduously to obtain a cure. By not accepting the medicine or by failing to show up for consultations, a patient is not going to obtain a cure.

Similarly, Bala has provided songs that address a whole array of life’s problems. When they are sung with total involvement and faith, it is certainly possible to make all your dreams come true.

Why are Bala’s songs written only in the Tamil language, especially by two members in a Telugu- speaking household?
Although Bala’s songs songs are written in Tamil, people from all over the world are enraptured by the lilting melodies and are keen in obtaining a translation of the lyrics. What is the strange quality of attraction that her songs possess?

Why is greed so commonplace in the world we live in today? Why is it that people are never satisfied with what they have and constantly crave for more material things? When will envy, jealousy and anger cease to exist in the hearts of people?

ANSWER:

Listen once more to our requests
We don’t desire excessive pleasures, but caught as we are in this miserable
Deep well of unhappiness, that is life,
Do give us the
Strength to cross it as well as the fortitude to bear it.

QUESTION.

Why is it that many times our prayers are never answered?
Why do we suffer needlessly when we have not committed any sins in this lifetime? Why are misdeeds from the past, that we do not really remember or comprehend, affect us relentlessly in this life? Why am I led to suffer many a cruel situation, despite my faith, devotion and prayers? When will God’s grace fall on us ? When can we achieve sufficient strength to bear all our misfortunes?

ANSWER:
Only when we stop thinking of “our” problems all the time, can we achieve sufficient wisdom and detachment from worldly ends. Once this non-reactive state of mind is achieved, one is motivated to work hard for the welfare of others, instead. A person who is focused only on his own selfish requirements can never be happy. Just as quickly as one need is satisfied, there is craving for yet another object of worldly pleasure. Similarly, when emotional attachments to people and situations or events are strong, a person will never achieve liberation.

Accepting the inevitability of certain situations and perceiving the flow of events in one’s life as a mere on looker will certainly bring great strength, tolerance and tranquility.

ANSWER:
Sri Bala’s support can never cease or stop. Even though many might come to her, beseech her help and obtain all their desires, Bala does not really care if her help is acknowledged or not. She is beyond all likes and dislikes, hatred and anger. For this child deity, who dispenses love with the grace of a mother, everyone who reaches out to her is taken care of. Even those who might feel angry or upset that she does not seem to instantly fulfill their needs, realize over time, the limitless nature of her love and affection.

Like a flood of water coursing through an opened sluice,
Bala’s grace bursts forth,
Answers are revealed, all questions get transformed
And finally, the heart pronounces that Bala IS everything!

QUESTION:

Oh little child, precious child, when will you give me sufficient wisdom to understand that everything we receive in this world are the boons you lovingly give us?

When will I understand that it is only when your grace falls on me, I shall clearly see the answers to all my problems? When will I learn that it is only when you so will it, I will be able to CHANGE the questions in my mind, so your answers can be revealed?

ANSWER:

This verse marks a sharp turning point with regard to the nature of the questions I have asked thus far, in this article. With one swift stroke, Bala has changed the very type and manner of questions arising in my mind to prove that She alone causes them to arise and She alone can provide the perfect answer.

VERSE 39.

NOT BEING UNGRATEFUL FOR GOOD DEEDS PERFORMED.
SEI NANRI MARAVAADIRUKKA.

senRaalum palanillai baalavidam thaan vara veNdum.

Meaning:

Though we call out her name, sometimes, after receiving the good benefits,
Our hearts change; this makes Bala smile
Then, obstacles appear in the path we climb,
Although, we may visit several hundreds of temples,
there’s no use, finally, we have to return to Bala .

QUESTION:

Oh Dear One! When will I understand that it is my own lack of total faith in you that causes questions and confusion in my own mind?

When will I understand that a confused mind will cause me to travel far and wide in search of solutions to my problems? The more astrologers, Swamis and God-Men I encounter, the more bewildered does my mind get.

When will I understand that finally, when I return to Bala’s feet, all my questions will be answered and my mental confusion evaporates like the morning dew melting under the warmth of the radiant Sun?

ANSWER:

The only answer to this question is the tinkling sound of a sweet child’s laughter. Bala provides all the answers to our problems and solves all our difficulties. Yet, we tend to stray from her and forget her after achieving our selfish ends. Being the mischievous child she is, Bala looks on us, smiles with glee and places tiny obstacles in the path we tread, so we are ultimately forced to return to her. She notes with great delight the time and effort we waste by going to other Gurus and Swamis, when all we have to do is simply stand in front of her and sing her songs!

It is said that even an inanimate object can achieve greatness and fame by just being close to Bala. So, being immersed in thoughts of this playful child is surely the most important ingredient for success in life.

Although, I have reiterated in all the answers that the ultimate solution to all our problems is a glimpse of this enchanting child, I have to stress that the mere physical proximity alone isn’t sufficient to obtain her grace. It’s enough to just come to Bala, there can be no more fear,
A small photo of Bala alone is enough

QUESTION:

Why am I never able to get peace of mind although I visit many holy places and undertake many pilgrimages? Why are all my attempts fruitless, except when I step inside Sri Bala Peetam?

ANSWER:

It is said that even a small photo of Sri Bala is sufficient to protect you and confer all boons. Meaning:

You remain in my thoughts, always, on the path I tread,
If that ( your memory) disappears, sweet jaggery will taste sour and milk will turn into poison,
My heart will smolder with sorrow, and I shall long with passion to catch a glimpse of your lovely face,
My mind will be as restless as waves in the sea.

QUESTION.

When will I understand you are the constant companion in my life?
When will I comprehend that losing sight of you even for a moment will cause my mind to be restless?

ANSWER:

Even the sweetest jaggery will taste sour, the purest milk will become poison, in the absence of Bala! In other words, even the most pleasant outcome in life will lose its ability to create happiness, if the mind loses sight of Bala. Her absence in your life will cause an immense vacuum and intolerable sorrow that can only be remedied by her returning to her once more! By remembering Bala during both downturns in life as well as at happy moments, her constant grace is assured.

April 28th, 2010.

Until Verse 38, many questions poured forth from my mind and I wrote them all down swiftly without a pause. However Verse 38 marked a transition . I found that my questions became more rhetorical, after this verse. In other words, the answers were apparent in every question. It was as if my mind was getting clearer and many deep rooted observations were poured out.

Similarly, from verse 61, I find that both types of questions, whether stemming from ignorance or rhetorical questions arising from experience , have stopped altogether.
What I’m facing now is the Truth regarding Bala.

As I write this segment ( April 28th, 2010) on a Pournami day, at exactly 4 p.m., Bala is reminding me to complete the next section of the 40 remaining verses of her Andhadhi in the form of a “praise” to her.

I merely carry out her commands!

Verse 61:
FOR ALLEVIATION OF SORROW.
PAAZHUM SOGAM THEERA.

Paayum puliyum punnagai puriyum unai kaNdaal veyil
Saayum pozhuthu sooriyanum kalangidum unai neenguthalaal
thEyum nilavum unai paarkka iyalaamal thEmbi azhum
Oyum alaikkuLLa Sogam un peyar solla mAaRum.

Meaning:

A pouncing tiger smiles after seeing you, during sunset, even the sun’s eyes are moist at the thought of leaving you,
The waning moon weeps inconsolably at not being able to see you
And the deep sorrow echoing in the dying roar of the ocean’s waves
Vanishes when your name is spoken.

Symbolism:

Oh Bala, why will sorrow linger when you are present? You have the power to charm a ferocious tiger, make the fading afternoon sun feel sorry he is not going to see you until daybreak, and the waning moon, likewise, is inconsolable not to have a glimpse of your sweet face.

Waves rise and recede in the vast, deep ocean. It is as though they possess life and animation just for a few moments while they mount up to a frothy height, since the next second they disappear completely , merging into the same water that created their form.

So too, all of us live and die in this world you have created, attaining you in the end. Oh Bala, uttering your name gives instant salvation even to the ocean waves! May we always remember you in this life!

On that day, you should appear in front of me, if you do come
No disease will afflict me, it’ll disappear, Oh mother,

Protect this beautiful world, dear child!

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, you make the Lord of Death bow down to you!

I implore you to come to my side whenever I’m ill, so my frail body can be revived by your grace. Oh dear child who has come down to earth to protect everyone, I pray that I might catch a glimpse of you in the twilight of my life, so you can help me move on to a peaceful place.

Meaning:

A Goddess who is both a child as well as Mother,
Any mouth that sings your praises loses vileness
Fresh beginnings abound, in your presence, even fire is transformed
Into sweetness, and when your glance falls,
Even a small ant stands as tall as the lofty Himalayas.

Symbolism.

Oh precious child, who reveals the compassion of a mother, you bestow your grace equally on all faithful devotees who sing your songs and praise you. No harm can befall them and you take care to raise their status and provide a fresh hope in their lives. Oh Bala, even a tiny, insignificant ant or human being can be raised to dizzying heights if you so willed it.

VERSE 64.

Samayam varumpOdu sadangai Olikka Shaduthiyil vandiduvaL.

Meaning:

In greatness, she’s as tall as the Himalayas, she’s as protective
As an eyelid (to the eye),
When dangers come, she dispenses grace with calmness and raises us
To the peak of fame, with great ease she provides a boost
And at the appropriate time, arrives suddenly, running
Hastily, anklets jingling to be near us!

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, mysterious are your ways. When you decide, you grant boons swiftly to your devotees and make them ascend the ladder of fame, so quickly! Oh beautiful child who comes running towards her followers, anklets jingling as you quicken your approach, may we always be lucky to have you in our midst!

VERSE 65:

Meaning:

She comes, this damsel, with her customary smile and gives
Boons, even before they are asked, when questioned,
She spills forth laughter, and in great style, with her tiny, little waist
Leaping and dancing,
she races ahead of all other deities in a single second.

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, you grant us all our wishes even before we can ask you!
You crafty, mischievous child, you make all our dreams come true yet feign ignorance with a sweet smile on your lips when we question you! Dressed in beautiful hues, you dance into our lives, your tiny body bursting with vigor to come to our support. Oh Bala, you are indeed the abode of all Gods and the main source of energy in all creation!

VERSE 66.

TO SUPPORT US DURING DIFFICULTIES.

Vizhudu marathai thannguthal pOl namai kaathidum

Meaning:

Your “suprabatham” ( auspicious morning song) that resonates at daybreak, protects us
Just as a Banyan tree is supported by its roots,
There’s no need to cry or complain. Coming to Mother’s
Peedam and worshipping her is sufficient
All our afflictions will be destroyed.

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, your Suprabatham awakens our senses as it wafts in the early morning breeze. Just listening to it every day provides us support and strength just as a huge banyan tree is supported by its many roots. There is no need to cry in front of Bala or pour out our grief in a visible manner. Like an eye lid protects the eyes, Bala will certainly protect all those dear to her from every single, difficult event in their lives and banish all evil effects and curses from harming them.

VERSE 67.

Meaning:

There are no curses, no religious rites are needed
For sorrow to transform, for yearnings to vanish, it is enough to
Come to Bala’s sanctum, there’s no need for anger
Or to get angry with anyone, no benefit comes out of getting angry
If Bala wishes, whatever we require will spurt forth like a waterfall.

Symbolism:

Nothing good has ever come out of actions taken in anger. There is no need to entertain anger in our hearts or indeed to express it in action since this results only in more sorrow. Similarly, it is folly indeed to be angry with Bala if wishes aren’t fulfilled. Once we have reached Bala, events take place in our life only in the manner she wants and even unpleasant situations reveal a lesson to the devotees.
If Bala really wants to confer boons on her devotees, her blessings gush forth in a torrent, at the appropriate time.

VERSE 68.

FOR DREAMS TO BE REALISED.

Meaning:

The pouring rain sings your glory, the silk skirt
You wear cuts( our awareness) like lightning,
The door of our hearts will be tapped by intense happiness
All our dreams come true, as long as I live
And without fail, my thoughts will hover around you!

Symbolism.

It is no exaggeration to say that even the downpour of rain, indicates only your grace or blessings. The sight of your glittering dress can itself prevent many a thunderbolt from affecting us! In other words, the glorious vision of Bala in her dazzling dress removes all ignorance with the abruptness of lightning. And when our long cherished dreams come true and our hearts are happy, may we never forget to sing your praises constantly!

VERSE 69.

Meaning:

Oh lovely lady, the revolving sun seeks out your feet
Learning a lot does not really help, to attract you to me
I shall even sell my very soul to write your poems,
Even ascetics who have given up all desires jostle each other, in order to glimpse your smile.

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, the very sun that energizes this universe seeks to reach your holy feet. Ascetics and learned people who have withdrawn from all worldly desires have just one desire left, to see your lovely smile! What is the purpose of all my knowledge when I can’t seem to capture you inside my heart. I would gladly sell my very soul and body if necessary to keep on writing your praises or depicting your wondrous images through my drawings!

VERSE 70.

Meaning:

They come, see you and get amazed.
With delight
they give away everything, and without wavering, think only of you,
Oh damsel, who descended to earth and the pride of Tamil people,
All enemies realize their faults by experiencing your love.

Symbolism.

Oh Bala, your love transforms people completely. You summon a few people to come closer to you. They come to behold your glowing splendor and undergo a complete change in their lives. Holding on to you for the rest of their lives, these people continue to serve you by helping others. Yet some stray away from you for a while. However, it is your loving grace that makes those who wander away realize their mistakes and compels them back into your presence.

VERSE 71.

Meaning:

Having descended into this world to protect everyone through love
Why is it that after teaching me everything, because of her love for me
And after attracting me to her side, when I question her,
She says “ I know nothing” ?
You can never win an argument with my own, dear one!

Symbolism:

You have conquered this entire world with love, Oh Bala! It is with love you have taught me so many things and taken me inside your heart. Yet, when I sometimes wonder how all of this came to pass, all I get from you in response is just a smile! It is impossible to ask you any questions since the only answer is a smile. There can be no arguments with you either as you always emerge as the winner!
Why have I forgotten that you neither like questions or like to be questioned about your mischievous, and divine ways?

VERSE 72.

Meaning:

Impossible is a word that doesn’t exist with you,
Without you even sunrise can’t happen, this is certain
Our wandering minds don’t get calmed easily
Just as a defective loom can never produce perfect results,
My deep sorrow can never decrease, so I clasp you tightly to my heart.

Symbolism.

There can be no defeat as far as you are concerned. There can be no failure in any task since with your grace everything gets done easily. Oh Bala, you are the only source of strength to my weak and fickle mind. Holding on to you tightly can I ever be disturbed by grief or sorrow anymore?
Even if I am filled with defects, by holding on to you at all times, I will be transformed.

VERSE 73.

FOR FAMINE AND SCARCITY TO DISAPPEAR.
PANJAM PATINI NEENGA.

Nenjam muzhudum niraindavale nemili nagar vandavale
Vanjam indri vaanjaiyodu nallapadi naangal vazha

Meaning:

Filling our hearts completely, having come to Nemili,
You help us lead a good life without deceit, and with great compassion
Show the way to remove all scarcity and famine, for this whole world to prosper,
Precious child, why did I forget that you alone are responsible for all good things?

SYMBOLISM:

Scarcity and Famine represent not only the shortage of food and material requisites in this world but also the shortage of good values and virtues among people and the abundance of ignorance, deceit and dishonesty in the world. Bala’s presence in Nemili is an enigma. Her songs are short and simple, yet pack a wealth of meanings in their words. This verse points out not only the import of her songs and the values they espouse but also the fact that contemplation on Bala alone is sufficient to alleviate all problems. The statement “ Nee Pothum enbadai Naan En Maranden?” Why do I forget that just you, (your presence, your thought, your holy name), alone are enough to provide all answers to my many questions in life?

VERSE 74.

TO DO WELL IN EVERYTHING.
ANAITHILUM CHIRAKKA.

Piranden piragu uNarnden pizhaiyai charan pugunden

Meaning:

Lovely lady, I’ve forgotten everything, ignorant and insane am I,
Born into this world; I realized my faults and surrendered unto you
And then prospered, yet, my one desire
Is to not die without accomplishing anything,
May I fulfill your wishes ( for me) in this life.

SYMBOLISM.

This verse is tightly packed with a lot of meanings. The word “Mandakini” refers to a lady of about 60 years , as well as to the celestial river, Ganges. Bala, is depicted as both a small child as well as a compassionate Mother. Just like a river fertilizes barren areas and allow food crops to thrive and grow, Bala’s grace is essential for all of us to do well in life. Yet, ignorant and intoxicated are we with worldly pleasures ( Madonmathan refers to a person who is reeling in a drunken stupor) that we fail to understand she is the sole support in life.
However, when we finally reach her abode and seek sanctuary at her feet, all sorrow vanishes and the only desire left in our hearts is to carry out her wishes during the remainder of our sojourn in this world!

VERSE 75.

Meaning:

I’ll fill everyone’s hearts with your songs
then transform their minds nicely, later comfort
them, telling them not to grieve
after I accomplish all I intended to carry out,
I shall sing your praises, Oh mother you are my very life!

SYMBOLISM:

This verse highlights the purpose of Sri Baba.G’s work at Bala Peetam. It is only through his songs that Bala reaches out to help all of us. Although the songs are intended to provide a cure for many of life’s ailments, they also contain wise sayings and point out a very clear set of moral values that need to be undertaken to achieve salvation in life. Importantly, serving the needs of others through group prayers sessions, or parayanam, is the fundamental premise of Sri Bala’s Dikshai, or holy initiation.

Singing Bala’s praises and offering grateful thanks after wishes come true are also indispensable features in the worship of this little, precious child.

VERSE 76.

TO MAKE FOES AND ENEMIES WORSHIP YOU.
PANIYAARAI PANIYE VAIKKA.

Uyir peridalla udal peridalla thooya bhakthi
Payir vaLarkka paniyaarai paniya vaikka en arivai
Vayir aakku vayiram pol minnum vaalaikkumariye
Ayir neeku nalla anbukku ennai adipadiyaakku.

Meaning:

Life is not important, this body is not important; for pure devotion
To sprout and flourish and for foes and the irreverent people to worship you,
To polish my intellect and make it twinkle like diamonds, enchanting little girl,
Remove all suspicion and doubt from my mind, and make me a slave to pure love.

Symbolism:

It is only when all confusion, doubt and suspicion is removed from the mind that the truth becomes very clear. Bala is the ever shining symbol of truth, love and beauty. Yet, it is sometimes very difficult to achieve the sense of humility and total surrender that are pre requisites for obtaining Bala’s grace. Very often our mind is clouded by uncertainty and at these times, Bala recedes quietly away in the deep recesses of our minds. However, when our intellect is sharpened through her grace and ignorance regarding the true nature of this illusory world is revealed, Bala reveals her presence even to the most irreverent devotee.

VERSE 77.

SEI THOZHIL PERUGA.

Meaning:

You are the root cause of all things that come into existence
You are the one all tongues worship and thank.
Without having any motive or expectations I came, and
Your nectar-like words of grace and this splendid opportunity you’ve given me
Have made me distinguished in the world today!

Symbolism:

In this verse, the importance of selfless actions are highlighted. In describing his own work, Sri Baba.G has referred to the fact that it is indeed his great fortune to have been presented with the opportunity of writing the songs Bala has given him as well as making public many of her wise sayings or Arul Vakku that has only been revealed to him. Bala has raised Sri Baba.G’s status slowly and through his selfless deeds, in helping others and providing guidance, his true worth as a Guru has finally been revealed to those who show him respect!

VERSE 78.

Meaning:

To really experience her, you have to retain her in the heart, this
Way of reaching her isn’t easy, for that, certain, simple virtues
Are necessary to uphold, then, this young girl will sit in our laps
And embrace us, make miracles happen and laugh beautifully!

Symbolism.

It is extremely difficult to understand this little child, let alone experience the thrill of actually witnessing her magical powers at work. In order to be deserving of this knowledge, it is very important to remain simple, humble, practice good virtues and be of service and help to others. Only when selfishness is removed from our hearts and replaced with selfless devotion and service, can Bala’s presence be discerned. This little child will dance her way into our laps and embrace us with glee, causing many a miracle to occur in our lives and erase all sorrow.

VERSE 79.

Meaning:

Smiling attractively this enchantress’s glance burns the wicked
Destroys those who show contempt; at her touch
Even he pungency of salt becomes sweet; destiny will depart
On hearing her name, slink and hide, and grasp her feet.

Symbolism.

Bala’s powers reveal her immense greatness and stature among all deities. Chanting her holy name affords instant protection from all dangers destiny has in store for us. Her glance alone is sufficient to ward off all evils, burn away foes and prevent many an unfortunate situation in life. Her tinkling laughter frightens away enemies and those who scoff or scorn her. Holding on firmly to Sri Bala’s feet and placing full trust in her, is the only way to gain strength to fight and win over life’s challenges.

VERSE 80.

FOR HUMAN LOVE AND AFFECTION TO GET STRONGER.
MANITHA NYEYAM CHIRAKKA.

Meaning:

Hold on to Bala, that is the best way, it doesn’t matter,
Lose to Bala, that is sheer happiness, fill your heart
With her holy name, several times over, and, slowly, slowly
Change your mind,
For love and affection to mankind to increase and grow
Praise Bala with all your heart!

Symbolism:

Bala is a small child and the best way of actually holding onto her is to treat her as a small child and behave towards her like you might, with the same love, tolerance and affection, towards your child. At times, it is inevitable to lose out to Bala in all and any confrontations. Bala doesn’t like to be questioned about her actions and she will always insist on having the last word in all arguments. The happiness of losing to her is ultimate bliss. Filling the heart with constant thoughts of Bala will surely transform it and fill it with love, which naturally spills over in interaction with the world. Helping mankind with love and affection is closest to Bala’s heart!

VERSE 81.

Meaning:

Praising Bala is easy, and for giving this praise
Observing penance is not necessary, in an instant our fate
Can be changed by her very easily, and even though sorrow
Wafts through our hearts, if she so desires,
We will also revel in pleasure and happiness.

Symbolism.

Being a small child, Bala’s actions arrive with lightning precision, only at the moment she wants it to turn up. Bala’s songs are the only bridge that offers a true devotee a means of crossing the river of unhappiness and reaching her side. There is no necessity to indulge in austerities, observe fasts or undergo penance. All unhappiness and sorrow can be transformed miraculously, the moment Bala’s glance falls on her devotees . The real significance of this verse is to highlight the importance of singing Bala’s songs and remaining true to her!

VERSE 82.

TO OBTAIN INTERNAL PURITY.
AHATHOOIMAI PERA.

Sukham enbathum sorgam enbathum veLiye ilaai nam
Akam konda thooimaiyil iruppade nijam balavin
Mukham thanthidum kodi sukham avaLai kumkumathaal archithaal

Meaning:

Neither Happiness nor Heaven exists outside
Remaining within a pure heart and mind alone is real
Bala’s face gives countless happiness, when she’s worshipped with kumkumam,
Even the finger nail forgets its inferiority and smiles with pride!

Symbolism:

Remaining in either a happy state or unhappy state is entirely within our own minds. A non-reacting mind that perceives all events, either joyful or sorrowful, with the same attitude and equanimity, will be always truly content. Complete peace of mind can only exist when every episode and situation in life is treated equally, without emotion and accepted as a prasadam or offering by God. Similarly, after reaching Bala, the sight of her face alone is sufficient to produce bliss in the heart. Regardless of whether a person is rich or poor, of a high rank or low status, worship offered to Bala with true love in your heart is what really counts to her!

VERSE 83.

FOR ENEMIES TO DEPART.
PAGAIYADHU VILAGA.

Nagaikum aasai varum Bala aNiyavendum endru

Gukaikkum malaikkum thavam seiya chella vendaam thikaippe
Thikaiikkum Balavai nitham paNinthaal painthidum puthiya rattham.

Meaning:

Even Jewellery will get the desire that it should be worn by Bala,
Enemies will get fear and decide not to antagonise Bala
There’s no need to run to caves and mountains to do penance
Revering and worshipping, the glowing and brilliant form of Bala
daily, will cause new blood (energy) to leap (through the body).

Symbolism.

All actions are carried out in Bala Peetam only at her request. She moves all the pieces on a giant chess board, causing people to visit her, allowing them to give her offerings or indeed act as instruments to carry out all her well-laid plans. So, there’s no surprise that even a small piece of jewellery cannot easily be given to Bala without her wish. Similarly, those harboring evil or wicked intentions, will necessarily change in her presence. Bala’s glance transforms everyone and there is no place in her Peetam for lies, deceit or hypocrisy.

Constant worship of Bala is the only way to re energise our tired minds and bodies. Like a fresh burst of power, Bala completely refreshes us every moment we think of her!

VERSE 84.

FOR GOOD THOUGHTS TO ARISE.

Meaning:

Before blood dries up( in our bodies)worshipping you, Oh Goddess of love, who rides on a chariot,
Makes spiritual bonds stronger, and our prominence increases, praising you,
Our hearts become pure as water, this is the truth,
No desire for wealth or pleasures, all I want are good thoughts!

Symbolism:

Hidden in this verse, amidst beautiful imagery are a lot of precious gems. This stanza, actually promises and assures the devotee that before he faces death, he shall surely obtain the grace of this most compassionate Goddess. There is also great emphasis on the insignificance of all materialistic pursuits. Neither sensual pleasures of the happiness from acquiring worldy pleasures can be equated with the peace and tranquility that comes from strengthening the bonds with Bala. A loving heart, a helpful attitude and constant good thoughts are the only virtues that will elevate a devotee.

Bala is depicted here as a beautiful Goddess of Love, riding on a huge chariot, coming near her devotees who are about to depart this world. Her presence and assurance of salvation is guaranteed to all those faithful devotees in her enchanted circle.

VERSE 85.

FOR THE STATE OF POVERTY TO CHANGE.
VARUMAI NILAI MAARA.

Chittham kondu avaL naamam jabithu vara
Pitham thelliyum kutram kuraiyum suttham koodum
Thattham velaigalai sarivara seidu vandaale vaazhkkai
Mottham vaLamai perugi varumaikku vanthidum varumai.

Meaning:

Concentrating on her and reciting her name, all
Confusion will be cleared, erroneous actions will be reduced,
Purity will increase
Performing one’s actions correctly will result in life
Becoming prosperous and great, and paucity will affect the state of poverty itself!

Symbolism.

The greatest treasure given by Bala to her devotees are her songs. These reveal many words of wisdom and point out virtues to maintain in life for achieving much greatness and respect. Simply holding onto these songs, and pondering over their deep meanings will automatically lead to a transformation in the manner people think and behave. All arrogance and pride will be replaced by humility and greed by generosity. Actions that are erroneous, stemming from evil intentions or anger will get transformed and finally, only pure love remains as the instigator for all thoughts and actions.

This process of getting transformed into a virtuous person is possible only with Bala’s grace.

VERSE 86.

TO ALTER A LOW STATE.
SIRUMAI NILAI MAARA.

Varumai neenga vazhvil perumai onga thalai kuniyum
Sirumai maara chindanai uyara kutram kuraindhu
Porumai kooda podhu vaazhvil nanmaigal puriya

Meaning:

For poverty to be removed, prominence to increase, low self-esteem and poverty to get transformed, thoughts to get elevated, personal defects to reduce,
For patience to augment, to perform good deeds in life
Realizing its value, generously donate your boundless wealth with love.

Symbolism.

In this short verse, Sri Bala has given a prescription for curing the state of poverty as well as the means to achieve greatness in life. Cultivating good virtues like patience, tolerance and elevating our thoughts to constantly perform good actions will surely lead a person on the path towards greatness and success.

Accumulation of wealth is important to obtain material ends. However, wealth should never be hoarded and it should never stagnate in one place. Just as the swift moving current in the river takes the water to all the places it visits, similarly, wealth should be given away constantly, for worthy and useful causes.

VERSE 87.

FOR RAINS TO INCREASE.
VAAN MAZHAI PERUGA.

Dhaanam seiya thaapam pogum thaaiyavaL karuNaiyaal
Vaanam poikkaamal mazhai perugum magizchi perugum bala
Gaanam isaithaal pothum jaathakam josiam ethum illai
Meenam mesham thevaiillai nallathai udane seithidalaam.

Meaning:

Donating wealth causes sorrow to depart, and with the great Mother’s grace,
The skies shall open up and rains will increase, happiness will swell
When Bala starts to sing, that’s enough, there’s no need for horoscopes or astrologers,
There’s no requirement for looking up auspicious times , Meenam or Mesham,
All good actions can be performed immediately.

Symbolism.

It is certainly true that at BALA peetam, there is no emphasis on designating a day as “good” or “bad” or a particular passage of time as “auspicious” or “inauspicious”. Whenever one thinks of Bala it is a good time. Whenever Bala is worshipped, this is an auspicious period.

Similarly, donating wealth for poor-feeding and other socially uplifting causes will definitely reduce the impact of past and current sins in one’s life. This verse also states emphatically that when Bala has decided to pour her blessings on a devotee, there is no further delay. Just as the dark and heavy, thunderclouds burst in an instant to shed rain, the cooling nectar of Bala’s grace will reach her true devotees regardless of the nature of the day or time period.

These references are primarily meant to challenge widely held superstitious beliefs that certain days are “bad” for carrying out auspicious events, etc.

As far as Bala is concerned every single day or moment spent in her thoughts is Good!

VERSE 88

FOR DECEITFUL STATE TO CHANGE.
VANCHAGA NILAI MAARA.

Seidhal yaavum Bala seivitthal aagum vaan mazhai
Peidhal kooda vaalaiaval viruppamaagum vanchagarkal siram
Koidal avaLukku oru vilaiyaataakum azhagu thuNi

Meaning:

All actions are done by Bala, the rains falling from the sky also,
Are at the request of this young girl, cutting off
the heads of deceitful people is a game for her, and
Like weaving a beautiful piece of cloth, making us into better people
Is her duty!

Symbolism.

Bala dispenses justice towards everyone with great glee. Punishing wicked, deceitful people, teaching lessons to those devotees who stray from her path, and transforming all those who have wandered into her family circle, are but a few of the tasks that she performs effortlessly. This verse serves to remind us that Bala is indeed the creator of this universe and since she is the pervading, immanent spirit in all animate and inanimate objects, she is the source of all thoughts and actions, be they good or bad, arising within all inhabitants.

VERSE 89.

Not to get crippled.
MUDAMAI ERPADAATHIRUKKA.

Meaning:

Without failing my duty I will come to see you,
My great and precious possession that you are
Underestimating you is great foolishness, throughout my life
May I never be afflicted by lameness or get crippled,
Stay in front and protect me, oh Mother!

Symbolism.

While it is extremely difficult to really understand Bala, it is indeed great folly to underestimate her as just a small child. While the deep symbolism for Bala is perhaps that she personifies everything that is pure and unsullied in nature, it is equally important to note that she has been characterized as a small child. So, just as a little child craves constant attention, she asks for and demands our constant devotion. In the same manner that a little child seeks instant gratification, Bala makes sure all her wishes and whims are carried out quickly. She is also possessive and guards her devotees with love and great care.

Symbolism.

Bala’s songs have been given to this world by her through SRI Baba.G. Each song addresses a unique problem and acts as a cure for a particular life situation or ailment. However, Bala has devised a set of rules to be followed in carrying out her parayanam or prayers. First, it is necessary to obtain initiation or Deekshai from BabA.G. Next, devotees are urged to pray for the welfare of those around them and write regular prayer letters to the Peetam. Adherence to these rules laid down by Bala is imperative in order to obtain good results.

Uttering Bala’s holy name tastes sweet to the tongue! In other words the universal acceptance of the greatness of Bala and her songs that are designed to produce comfort for all, can never be denied.

Symbolism.

This verse is perhaps the most significant among all the 100 verses of the Andhadhi. At the deepest level, Bala stands for child-like innocence and joy. By being united within you in your heart, she makes sure all actions stem from pure and honest intentions. In fact, she makes us understand the non dual nature of our soul and Iswara or God. The great truths hidden in the Vedas are explained by Bala very simply and quickly too. She is not an object or deity to be worshipped outside our bodies, but instead as the very existence principle within ourselves!

VERSE 97.

endowed with incomparable qualities none can equal.

Bala is the source of all good things in life. Arts, Music , Dance and all creativity originate from her. Like the Goddess Saraswathi, this little child, bestows on everyone the abilities to succeed in any type of education. However, she is partial to music and sits happily on each and every word in the lyrics she has given to this world. She is the very tune or melody in her songs. She is the very life of her songs since she forms and moulds their content.

Bala’s powers can neither be measured nor can they be compared with any other deity. She is the supreme Godhead who has chosen to come down to a humble dwelling in a village called Nemili in order to help mankind.

Verse 98.

Symbolism:

Bala is the eternal symbol of womanhood. Within her is encapsulated the various stages of a child’s growth from a young girl to a mature woman. To say she represents the female principle or Shakthi alone, would be to underestimate her importance as the unmanifest potential that brings forth this entire universe at the time of creation as well as draws it within herself during the period of dissolution.
Bala represents all that is good in the universe as well as all the wicked and deceit that abounds. She guides us through life removing all the negative traits, polishing our hearts until it becomes a reflection of her pure, untainted nature.

VERSE 100.

Symbolism.

This final verse contains many answers regarding the role played by Bala in our lives. A visit to Bala Peetam results in different types of changes in the lives of people. For some, no particular emotion is stirred and Bala’s house seems to resemble just another abode of worship. However for a few, selected people, the first moment in Bala’s presence brings about profound changes. Many are engulfed with an indescribable joy standing in front of Sri Bala. It’s a feeling of “having returned to a familiar place”, or having found a “lost treasure”.

Once Bala has accepted a person into her family, she tests them relentlessly before accepting them into her circle. Even at this time, she shows her love in the most perplexing way by pretending to act in a possessive and stubborn manner. Some devotees might lose sight of her at this point in time.

However, those who persevere and stay faithful to Bala will surely attain salvation at her feet. Bala becomes the life-breath of her true devotees and cares for them tenderly, like a mother during their entire life. She is adept at making difficult situations vanish in a twinkling of the eye, yet, make it seem so easy to accomplish.

A single experience with Bala is sufficient to give happiness for the entire life!
